Generally the larger population of colonists were farmers and didn't particularly think of political ideas. It was the educated men like Jefferson, Adams, and others that were influenced by the new Enlightenment thinkers and pushed for revolution. Average man just wanted to be able to live his life the way he wanted. Today we have a tendency to think the colonists were unhappy people and angry with the king. It was so much that way. Many people lived on farms in rural communities and until something happened to them or the family they stayed neutral about politics.
