Oil from plants is called Essential Oil, because it contains the scent or essence of the plant. Example: Linseed oil comes from the Flax plant and is good to eat in small doses.
Oil extracted from animals is called Organic Oil, because they come from a living organism. Example: Cod Liver Oil is extracted from the liver of the fish and is tasty.
Oil from rocks is called Mineral Oil, because rocks contain minerals, and precious gems! Example: Petroleum, also known as Crude Oil, is extracted from the earth and is used to make plastics and power our cars.
Oils have various uses, and only a few of them are edible. We would normally take this oil into our bodies along with the rest of the plant or animal we were eating.
