We now know this not to be true and that the sun is at the centre of the solar system (Heliocentric). This was suggested as early as the 3rd century BC by Aristarchus of Samo, but he received no support from other astronomers at the time. Nicolaus Copernicus later in the 16th Century proposed the helicentric model that we see true today.
