This bike is 498cc and i love powerful bikes.
i have one that gets 55mpgmine got 52 the first tank heavy town driving, then on the highway I got 59 mpg. so about 55 is a good average to go on.
This happens if you overfill with oil. Max capacity with a new filter is 6.5 quarts.
I have a 2007 Vulcan 900 and I got only 125 miles off a tank of gas. I was on the hwy and driving between 75-80 mph
I sometimes do in my 2007 Nomad, but it runs smoother on premium. Sometimes to save money I'll use regular and add octane.

Try 87 Octane if it does not "ping" excessively you should be OK
