Factory says 5w30 or 5w40. I always heard a small knock when I started my Dakota even on warm mornings. I went to a straight 30w but now I can't get it (quaker state) so now I use 10w 40 & I don't get that knock. stay with 1 good brand of oil. I have heard that mixing 2 good brands will cause the oil to start making sludge. True? don't know but why take a chance. all my cars/trucks (8 including my kids) have 130,000 or more & no smoke or knocks.
