The spleen has a number of functions that place it into more than one system. It's structure is similar to a large lymph node and it filters blood. It holds a very large amount of blood in case of great blood loss, it recycles old RBCs, it makes antibodies, and in fetal development it makes RBCs. It can be placed in lymphatic and hematopoietic systems (blood and lymph).
