During the Revolutionary war, Washington noted the effectivness of the British Dragoon regiments and the fear they generated on the battlefield. In 1777, Washington formed the Continental Light Dragoons and the training of these troops fell to a man called the Count Casimir Pulaski. The compliment of a brigade was 280 men to a troop with a total of six troops. To take it a step further. Due to issues with the Count and other American officers, Congress permited Pulaski to form his own unit. This became known as the Pulaski Legion. This was comprised of Calvary (Dragoons), Riflemen and Grenadiers.
