What did a "bootlegger" smuggle into the United States from other countries?
ENGLAND!!!
usually the US and that country had a battle at some point or fought on their land and they decided to trade with the US and they probably dont like each other but they are still trading "buddies". The US gets along with other countries because they have an understanding of what we are capable of. Plus we always are helping other countries which results in getting their respect(sometimes, some countries are selfish). But what binds us most of all to other countries is that they know they are safe as long as the usa is around
To extend its influence, to further its foreign policy goals, to repress regimes deemed iconsistent with its policies, to secure valuable resources etc. buy useing overwelming fighting power
the central powers were taking a lot of countries over and when the us joined it was in 1917 because they were tired of being an isolationist.

World War II got the U.S. out of the Great Depression and there was no fighting in the U.S. so the government didn't have to pay for the damage that other countries had to pay for.
