Harold had the housecarls and they were equipped and paid for by the king also their are the Fryds and they are usually farmers or work in town!
Harold Godwinson lead the Saxon army to the battle of Hastings.
That they had different amount of knights/ soldiers in the army.
Harold Godwinsen had the fryed on his army, however Duke William was likely to have some too. The fryed were basically men who were not trained to fight and put in the army as soldiers. They both had good defence- Harold had positioned his army so he was protected. But William had better defence because he had a bigger army, including archers, cavalry, and more trained soldiers.
harolds weaknesses weretired armylack of control ( as army went down hill instead of stay and listen to harold)ruduced numbers in army from previouse battleHis army were part time solders & and were notfully trained
Harold Harada died because he was in war so what would you expect
wrong !! Willam was much better than harold as you can see in the battle of Hasting William had only 6000 knights while Harold had 2,000,000 soldiers Harold wasted many of his soldiers when he fought with Harald Hardrada , he did not use his mind . + The night before fighting William , Harold was having fun for winning Harald.H , He sang , drank wine , etc . while william made his soldiers sleep early . -------------------------------------------- Thank you !
Harold called his untrained army the "fyrd." The fyrd was a medieval militia composed of free men who were summoned to serve in times of war. This force was often less experienced than professional soldiers, relying on local farmers and townspeople to defend their territory.
An army of soldiers or a troop of soldiers or a platoon of soldiers.
Harold's army was a fairly typical Anglo-Saxon army. It was a fyrd, which was a sort of militia army. It was almost entirely infantry, and was supported by Harold's housecarles, an elite heavy infantry force. Since the fyrd was defending, they deployed using the "shieldwall", which was a defensive stance that involved the soldiers standing close together so their large shields resembled a protective wall. Additionally, they set up on a hill, which made their defensive formation even more effective.William's army was a "modern" (for that time) army. It was about half infantry, and the other half was cavalry (knights) and missile troops (archers and crossbowmen). It was more tactically flexible than Harold's old-style fyrd, and when they were initially unable to bypass the fyrd's shieldwall, they were able to adapt and ultimately defeat it.
His army had horses, but the horse were not bred or trained for battle. His soldiers rode to the battlefield and dismounted to fight.
Yes, mainly because Harold Godwinson had to fight against William - Right after fighting with Harold Hadraada. By then their army was exhausted.
