What other tire size is compatible with 700R15LT?

These tires are tall and skinny, and would have been common on older cars and trucks (1950's, give or take). They are about 29.5 inches tall. Vintage tire dealers (Coker) can supply bias ply tires with whitewalls or blackwalls in this size. They are spendy.

Yokohama makes two in this size, 700R15, blackwall, in radial, their traction Y742S and highway RY215. Tire Rack has them at around 185 bucks, not cheap, but not too bad.

A modern nomenclature tire that is about the same size would be a 225/75/15 and would be a radial. It would be a little short (28.5 inches), but would fit on a skinnier wheel (5.5 inches up to the 7.00 or so).

There are 30 x 9.5 tires, but they require a wider wheel, and may present clearance problems. Wider wheels put on an older car often result in higher steering effort, and clearance problems (tires hitting inner fenders, brake hoses, that sort of thing).

After a bunch of research, I am going with the Yokohamas, traction on the rear, highways for the front and spare. It is a 1942 Chevrolet truck.

Radials beat the heck out of bias plys as to ride comfort, handling and feel.
