In my opinion I would say that the mountainous range, is one of the major physical features in the area, it provides a constant supply of water, and a source of minerals that could be traded. Another major physical feature would of course be the river itself, it provided fresh water, a supply of fish, and a way to trade over seas with other civilizations, particularly in Mesopotamia, and somewhat in Egypt. If you do not count the river as one of these, the Thar desert could be used as an advantage to the Indus people, in the sense that it protects them from ambushes from the west. This is because no army would go through the Thar Desert to get to the Indus people, the men would either get very weak, or perhaps die.
Uh, the Himalayan mountains and the Khyber Pass :)
