Yes. It is the home of the largest part of the community of Melanesian people whose lands spread from the islands of Indonesia through to the islands of Fiji. Some of the countries with land in Melanesia are Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Fiji. Although it has large communities on non-Melanesian people the island of New Guinea is definitely part of the region know as Melanesia.
Melanesia is a group of countries. Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea are all part of Melanesia. Fiji is the only Melanesian country with Polynesian admixture. These can easily be found in Rotuma, Rabi, Kioa, and Lau. These people have similar language and culture to that of Polynesian countries.

Yes. Indonesians are Asians for the most part. Because most of Indonesia, is located in Southeast Asia. But, since Indonesia is so large, part of it also juts into the Oceanic region of Melanesia. So Indonesians from Melanesia, can either be classified as Asian or Pacific Islander.
