Why did Stephenine Meyer named her 3rd book eclipse?
its called eclipse because it signifies how Jacob cant compete with Edward. Bella thinks of Jacob as her own personal sun and at the end of the book when she tells him this he says "the clouds i can handle but i cant fight an eclipse" meaning he cant even compete against Edward. Jacob is the sun and Edward is the moon and during an eclipse the moon covers up the sun meaning Edward will overshadow Jacob personally i think that is genius to think of Edward and Jacob as the sun and moon during an eclipse and to title the 3rd book eclipse Or, a more 'anti-Twilight' view, because you can't look at it directly.

(talking of edward. ) another possibility, less likely though is when edward kills Victoria and burns her, the purple cloud of smoke that rises might have looked a little like an eclipse, but i don't think so...
