There are multiple definitions of the Pacific Northwest, none definitive. In general terms the "Pacific Northwest" is the region of North American bounded by the Pacific Ocean on the west and roughly the Rocky Mountains on the east and running south to about the southern border of Oregon and Idaho. An alternate, more restricted, and commonly accepted definition is the area between the Pacific on the west and the Cascade and Canadian Coastal Mountains on the east. The Canadian province of British Columbia and Yukon territory along with the American states of Oregon and Washington are accepted parts of the Pacific Northwest. The northern part of Idaho may also be included. Broader definitions of the area may include the entire state of Idaho, western Montana, parts of northwestern Wyoming, the northwest coast of California and the southeast part of (or even the entire state of) Alaska.
