One of the main causes and reasons for sleep paralysis is that the brain is not moving smoothly between the stages of sleep. Very rarely is the sleep paralysis linked to any psychiatric problems.
A condition which causes part of the brain not to form is called anencephaly.
Cerebellum
Stroke is a medical condition where part of the brain dies as a result from a blood clot. The blod clot blocks the flow of blood to the part, depriving that part of the brain with oxygen and nutrients. As such, paralysis of body parts which that part of the brain controls, ensues.

This could be a variation on the phenomenon known as "sleep paralysis," particularly if the dream occurred just before you woke up in the morning. It only means that part of your brain was awakening while another part of your brain was still asleep, and maintaining the mild paralysis of the limbs that is normal during sleep. See the Wikipedia link below on sleep paralysis.
