"The rest of Harrison's appearance was Halloween"
Some examples of irony in "Harrison Bergeron" include the notion that a society aiming for equality actually results in oppression, the irony of the protagonist being punished for his exceptional abilities, and the fact that a story about the dangers of extreme equality is told in such a dark and dystopian tone.
The ironical situation in this story is the part whereby Hazel was envious to see George with his handicap on. She told George that,"I'd think it would be real interesting, hearing all different sounds". Whereas the sounds in his head are like twenty-one gun saluted .
Besides that, the other ironical situation in this appearance of the ballerinas, the ballerinas were burdened with sash weights and bags of bird shot and they were even wearing ugly masks, so that no one could see a free graceful gesture or a pretty face.
The conclusion of these two ironic situations shows that people who hate wearing those handicaps are actually intelligent and people like George's intelligence has way much above normal. While for the ballerinas with the ugly faces, are actually beautiful. This is because when Harrison took off the mental handicap from her face. The ballerina eventually shakes off her physical handicaps with marvellous delicacy and she turn out to be so beautiful after the mask is removed.
