Not all nuclear radiation is very harmful. (But it is still better to minimise your exposure to it.)

Bananas for example contain potassium, and so do you.

Potassium40 has a half life of 1.3x10^9 years before it becomes Argon40 or Calcium40. (different reactions)

And you contain K40, and it likewise decays as above. K40 is about 0.012% of the total potassium.

Granite gives off a dangerous radioactive heavy gas called Radon, and this is a problem with granite houses, and sometimes with basements.

The best thing to do about radiation is to become well informed.

What are disadvantages of nuclear power as a source of energy?

I know for a fact (or a matter of opinion if you get technical) that a common and paticular disadvantage to Nuclear Energy is the possibility of Radiation Poisoning. Radiation Poisoning kills children and their families generations after the particles were released into the air and food. If it's going to kill us, Solar Energy has my vote over Nuclear Energy. Take the Fukishima (I do'nt know if I spelt Fukishima right so don't quote me) Nuclear Plant in Japan for example. The poisoning has spread so far around the owrld that if you don't have radition poisoning now you will in a minute. Radition Poisoning leads to cancer and is a deadly and serious matter.
