This answer is based on anecdotal evidence (the kids at the japanese high school I went to, the other schools in the area, and my friend's schools), because I don't think there's an official figure, but it was roughly 70%-80%.

Juku helps you prepare for junior high/high school/university entrance exams, which pretty much determine the path of your life over there, so it's used extensively.

As getting into a good university is seen as the most important thing you can do over there, the percent of kids attending juku probably goes up to the mid-nineties once the kids are in their final year of high school.

Around 60-70% of Japanese kids attend juku, which are private after-school tutoring or cram schools. Juku are popular in Japan because they provide additional academic support and help students prepare for entrance exams.

How many hours do the Chinese kids go to school?

I'm Japanese myself, so I'm not really sure... but from what I heard... Chinese people believed that there are some tensions between us, and rumors claimed that the Japanese people are creating atomic bombs. Hence, young Chinese students are forced to stay at least 15 hours in school to educate the physics, and chemistry to create the bomb. I think they are stupid.
