About 85% of the total population of ca. 4.8 million are members of the state church and another 5% are members of other christian church societies. However, not everyone who is a member of the state church consider themselves as christians, and only 5-10% of church members go to church on a regular basis.
When you are born a Norwegian citizen, your name is automatically added as a member of the Norwegian church as a Christian. Thus as of 2010 79% of Norwegians is a member, if you as you grow up wish to "un-register" this is within your right, although you are a member until you can do so.
However although the majority of the Norwegian population is a member of the church, this does not constitute that they are Christians, many people who do not follow the religion are still members simply because the haven't bothered to "un- register."
