Nature has no reason. Polar bears die mostly from starvation, predation of cubs, cannibalism, drowning, disease and fighting.
Only a relatively small percentage are hunted and, since hunters reason, you will probably find that they considered their hunting expedition to be a good reason for taking a bear. Considering the amount of money that hunting pumps into local economies and into wildlife preservation from license fees, I would be inclined to agree with them.
