Personally I would say it's as high as about 50-60% whether they actually know the name or not. I have been surprised with which films were done on the stories of Stephen King which I had watched as a child and early teens and many other people could be in the same boat. Stand By Me is one of the films that haven't kept the "book name" and where a lot of people don't actually check the credits on films properly and tend to look past the opening credits they may not actually see the name although it has been registered. Just the other day I asked a friend of mine if he had heard of Stephen King to which he replied no, I asked if he had seen this film or that film etc... and he had. Clearly not heard of him but know's more about him that he actually realized. I think this would be the case with millions of other people
