Hurricane Sandy formed over the Carribean on October 22, 2012 and traveled north. It struck Jamaica on October 24 and Cuba on the 25. Haiti also suffed significant impacts and there was flooding in Puerto Rico. Sand continued north, moving across the Bahamas and parallel to the U.S. East Coast. The storm's enormous size meant that it was able produce rain and strong winds along the U.S. East Coast while the center remained well offshore. The outer bands also produced a weak tornado in Bermuda. Sandy then made an unprecedented westward turn and made landfall near Atlantic City, New Jersey on October 29, but was so large that damaging winds extended all the way to Maine and Ontario.
