I'm not sure what you are seeing this evening. Venus is about 40 degrees ahead of the Moon. At this moment, 8:45 PM in northern California, Venus is about to set, while the Moon is still high in the western sky. Saturn will be rising very shortly, but is nowhere CLOSE to the Moon. No other planets are visible this evening.

There are two relatively bright stars fairly close to the Moon; Hamal and Sheratan. Perhaps you are seeing one of those.

The distance from the Moon to the Earth is quite insignificant, compared to the distance to the planets. The distance from the Moon to a planet is basically the same as the distance from the Earth to such a planet. The planet that can come closest to Earth is Venus; but at any given time, Mercury or Mars can get closer to Earth, depending where each planet is in its orbit.

This is one of those questions where I would like to ask what exactly the question means. Perhaps it means "looks most like a full Moon".

In that case the answer is the planet Mercury. That looks like the Moon.

Venus is very near the crescent Moon this evening. Jupiter and Mercury are close together, but very close to the Sun at sunset.

What planet's moon is close to the size of the planet?

There is no such planet known. In our solar system, the planet whose moon is closest in size to the planet which it orbits is none other than our own planet Earth. However, the Moon is still much smaller than the Earth. Pluto has a Moon that's big, but Pluto isn't a "planet" now, of course.
