Historically, the Republican party has been known for it's support of big businesses, corporations, and industry. The Democratic party is more partial to helping the individual and supporting the efforts of small businesses.
In recent history, I think more business owners vote Republican because the Democrats are more prone to adding restrictions on industrial operations such as regulations about work-place safety , environmental controls , etc.
