Either is good. If you are very knowlegable in certain caegories, then you may consider being a category supervisor. If you knowledge falls into a bunch of categories or you don't want to be tied down to watching certain categories, you may want to become a floating supervisor.

Note that category supervisors are not restricted to just their own categories - they can still work in whatever category interests them.

Duties and responsibilities of security supervisor in hotel?

A supervisor is the lowest, or most-junior, management position. It is usually a step above lead (Accounting Supervisor is senior to Lead Accounting Specialist), but below Manager. A supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day performance of a small group. It may be a team, or a shift. The supervisor has experience in what the group does, but is not necessarily better at it than everyone he/she supervises. The supervisor's job is to guide the group toward its goals, see that all members of the team are productive, and resolve problems as they arise. A supervisor generally does not have the power to hire or fire employees or to promote them. A supervisor usually recommends such action to the next level of management. The supervisor does, however, often have the authority to change the work roles of the members of the team, for instance deciding which individual will work at which station.

How do you recommend a person to become a supervisor at your job site or company?

This is called an unsolicited reference or informal reference and can be done verbally or in writing for any job position or even a short term task. It is better if you put your comments in writing so it can be stored with the person's personnel file. Use a Business Letter format, with date, formal sentence structure and wording. You can submit it to your supervisor or even send it directly to the HR department. In your letter, do NOT criticize or name any other person. State something like: I am recommending (person's full name) for the position of (state the position). Then, list 2 or 3 reasons you think the person would be a great employee in that other role. You might also state: This recommendation was not solicited. But I have worked with this person for X number of years and noticed her attention to details and pride in supporting our company's goals. I believe her talents could be useful in a supervisor or managerial position. Sign your letter.
