The Hamstrings are the muscles of the posterior thigh that flex the knee.

The Hamstring Group consists of the semimembranosus, semitendonosus, and long head of the biceps femoris. The short head of the biceps femoris contributes to flexion of the knee but is not considered part of the Hamstring group due to its separate innervation. The tensor fascia lata also contributes to flexion when the knee is already partly flexed, but the TFL is on the lateral side of the thigh.

The Gastrocnemius also aids in weak knee flexion since it originates on the medial and lateral epicondyles of the femur.
