Before the law was passed of no child left behind, the role of education fell solely on the states. Since the passage of the law, the federal government is able to push core curriculum that the states must follow in regards to education.

The government provides even more support for higher education- about $17.6 billion to institutions of higher learning.

∙ 10y agoNo, federal government is not in charge of education. Education is an area that was left to the states to govern as they see fit. This is why requirements, standardized testing, and many other things are different from one state to another.

NOTE: every state in the United States accepts federal funds for education, so all federal rules apply in every state; as part of the acceptance of those funds.
