Thanksgiving is not celebrated on the last Thursday. It is celebrated on the Fourth Thursday in November of November. Two times in every seven years, there is a difference. President Franklin Roosevelt changed it to the Third Thursday and changed it back to the Fourth Thursday in 1942.
It was originally celebrated in the whole month of august then they changed it to November 1st and 2nd. :)
In 1954 Dwight D. Eisenhower was president of the United States. He officially declared November 11th to be Veteran's Day.
Thanksgiving was made a national holiday by President Lincoln, but it wasn't celebrated until much later in the 1900's. The date of the holiday has also changed off and on.

The U.S. Congress presented Veteran's Day to President Coolidge. This act went into place in the year 1938 and is celebrated on November 11th.

No president--the US Congress changed the name to Veterans Day in 1954.

Originally the Presidential term ended in March following the November Election. That was changed in the 1930s to so that the term now ends in January.
President Eisenhower signed the law that changed the name. I am not sure that he was the motivating force behind the name change.
