Cells need to double in size and duplicate their contents (organelles). The cell must be in a favorable environment that allows it to grow and produce more organelles and proteins. This occurs as part of interphase in the G1 and G2 phases. (A favorable environment is the first checkpoint for cellular division in interphase.)

The most important process is the replication of DNA; it must be fully copied so that each new cell will have an identical set. The DNA must also be checked for errors and damage. This occurs in the S phase of interphase. The cell will not continue in the cell cycle until these things have been done (a checkpoint).

(The last checkpoint is during mitosis when all the chromosomes are attached to spindle fibers. If any chromosome is not attached properly then the cell will not divide.)

What is the process in which DNA copies itself prior to cell division?

This process is known as DNA replication. DNA is a double-stranded molecule, and this serves to the cell's advantage. Using an enzyme, the cell splits the DNA strands apart, and new strands are copied onto the two parent strands to form two identical new strands. The process is much more complicated than that, but that's what happens.

What do you mean by cell divisions?

Cell division is when the parent cell divides into two or more daughter cells. This all happens during cell cycle. A process in which formation of new cell by the division of the preexisting cells take place is known as cell division A process in which formation of new cell by the division of the preexisting cells take place is known as cell division

When does replication happens?

DNA. replication takes place in S phase of cell cycle in interphase before cell division .

What process must occur first before any cell division take place?

Before any celldivision to occur, everything must be duplicated. That occurs during inter-phase before mitosis or meiosis begins or occurs. Fertilization -apex-
