As with all broad spectrum charities, the need for qualifications varies. For field work (actually helping the animals) you would almost definitely need a form of biological degree or a bio-chem degree. That's at least a 3yr full time Bachelors (in the UK) or an equivalent Office work would be definitely A-levels if not a specialist degree. On the streets charity work would need little, if any higher qualifications.
