Duncan was not a particularly good king. He was particularly bad at spotting when someone was going to betray him: not only Macbeth but also the previous Thane of Cawdor fooled him completely. He also showed his lack of judgement in making his son Malcolm the heir to the throne when Malcolm was clearly unsuited for the job. Nepotism came out on top of merit there. Duncan was a virtuous man, perhaps, but not a good king.

There's no consensus on whether King John was a good king. Many consider him to have been a bad ruler, but others think he was effective. Regardless of the presence of dissenting opinions, he tends to be portrayed negatively in the media.
After everyone found out Duncan was dead, Macbeth claimed that it was the guards who had slain King Duncan, as he made sure to smear the blood on their drunk, passed-out bodies.

Macbeth is a play written in about 1606 by William Shakespeare. It is the story of Macbeth, a Scottish nobleman who becomes king after the previous king dies. The previous king, Duncan, dies as a result of Macbeth murdering him in his bed as Duncan was attending a party at Macbeth's house. Macbeth is encouraged to do this by his wife and by some cryptic statements made by three witches.
Lots of historians believe that Arthur made a good king by doing the exact opposite of what his father did.
Duncan is seen as the kind and trusting king, while Malcolm is depicted as more suspicious and doubtful, especially after his father's murder. Duncan's naivety contrasts with Malcolm's more cautious nature as he learns to navigate the dangers of the political landscape.
