There are two types of questioning, direcr examination, and cross exmination. In direct examination, a lawer asks questions of his own witness. In cross, a lawer asks questions of opposinc council's witness (cross is the fun one, you get kinda yell at them sometimes)
As a general rule, so-called "mock trials" are conducted at law schools or at legal seminars, and occasionally, a particularly important case will arise where an attorney will conduct a mock trial in oreder to prepare his witnesses for potential questions that may arise. These are unusual instances and are, by NO means, normal every-day practice. During these mock trials they will ask pretty much the same type questions as they would face in a real life courtroom setting.

Yes, The judge can issue a bench warrant for your arrest. The court can deal with you as a hostile witness but still make you testify. If you are frightened that you will be harmed if you testify you should write to the judge and explain this. Otherwise no matter how personally distressing it may be for you , it is your duty as a citizen to truthfully answer under oath questions put to you in court. NOTE in court you are not asked to make a statement (as you would be by the police) you are asked to answer QUESTIONS put to you.
