The condor
The condor was the rare animal released in the Grand Canyon.
California Condor -- at one point a grand total of 22 birds of this species existed in the entire world. After captive breeding, several were released into the wild near Grand Canyon in 1996 December. There are now 400 condors alive, half of them in the wild, about 73 of them in the Grand Canyon area.
