First you would need an extension ladder to reach the roof. To fix the whole, you would need roofing shingles, roofing nails/screws and assorted tools (saw to cut shingles, drill, hammer, screwdriver, etc).
Well there is many places that offer you a variety of roof shingles. But the place that i would recommend that you buy the roof shingles would be at Home Depot or Lowes they offer different kinds of roof shingles. And they probably have the same kind your house had.
Would not recommend do to the weight and unevenness of the metal roofing material also the potential for leaks
Of course solar-panel roofing would be the greenest option. But there are lots of alternatives to conventional shingles that are much more efficient. Clay or slate, metal, and recycled shingles last longer and are more efficient. So are shingles with a reflective coating.
I would buy some new plywood You will be able to bad plywood thru the shingles... especially 20 year shingles.
#1. Of course somebody may have sold lefto'r roofing shingles on Ebay. I once sold half of a cheeseburger on ebay. #2. Perhaps you should do it and then you would know a definite answer. #3. Thank you for asking this question.
We are wondering if you could provide to us the figures that would allow us to compare polycarbonate roofing costs versus regular shingle costs?
Metal roofing lasts a lot longer and would be cheaper to repair if any damages occur. With wood, there is apossiblility of leakage faster than there would be metal. Simple sheet metal roofs will do fine.
The main thing you will need is the actual material you are placing on your roof such as shingles. You would also need flashing for around the chiminey, nails for the shingles, tar and tar paper.
I am not sure if this question is worded correctly. 1) To add rolled roofing under shingles is not a recommended method of installation. What will work is to install a layer of Ice & Water Protection such as Grace Ice & Water Shield prior to the installation of your shingles. 2) If you meant to ask about installing rolled roofing over your shingles or installing shingles over your rolled roofing this is once again not recommended but is commonly done. You would first make sure the surface is level and remove all loose debris from existing roofing materials and or dirt, leaves, etc.. Just a quick clean up and sweep should be good. Then if the existing roofing materials are leaking I would recommend you either remove them and do this installation properly or at least install a layer of underlayment such as a heavy 30# felt paper or RoofTop Guard II over the existing materials. Then install the new materials following the manufacturers specifications. Once again this is not the recommended procedure and will void all manufacturers warranties.
Shingles are more energy efficient than metal roofing. Metal roofing has no insulating properties so you would need extra insulation to make up for it. Plus they get hotter in the Summer.
not necessary if they're in decent shape and you don't have a heavy multiple layer of old shingles underneath them. I left my old roofing intact when I put concrete tiles on about 15 years ago thinking the old roofing would just give me another line of defense against leaks and time has proved me right. no leaks- no problems!
