It is the South African Reserve Bank (central bank) which increased the repo rate and lead to the commercial banks increasing their interest rates and which in turn caused consumers to end paying moire for basic goods and services. When these consumers could not afford to pay for the basics, their buying powers droped and the economy was ibegining to be in turmoil and no money was in circulation.
