The only reason they used wigwams was because they were alot stronger and more secure than a tipi.
They are actually the same thing. Our word "wigwam" comes from the Mi'kmaq "wikuom", a dwelling.
Wigwams are seasonal strutures that were built principally by the tribes of the American north east. Their conical structure make them strong and weatherproof. They can be warm even in snow. They can be constructed quickly (though not as quickly as a tipi) and when the tribe wants to move they can be taken apart and used as fuel.

Made by north American Indians Longhouse: A long house is a traditional Iroquois shelter tepee: is a cone-shaped tent.

The Halchidhoma tribe used grass and mud huts for shelter. They were set up on stilts. More permanent shelters of this type were made of wood.
