Why did the passengers not rush to fill the lifeboats on the titanic?

Because the people running the ship were all like, we gonna lock you in the lower decks and not give you the key because we like the rich people better and they deserve to live more than you. All the poor people on the lower decks died.

Why did not very many people survive the titanic?

When the Titanic hit the ice cap the bottom started to leak first which happened to be where the saftey equiptment was. The water was freezing so if they went down they may have escaped drowning and died of nuemonia instead, either way they would have died.

Why were the 1st life boats half empty on titanic?

The first lifeboats could have been left half empty on the Titanic for a variety of reasons. Many of the people first boarding the lifeboats were of the upper class, and they would be more inclined to value their own personal space without regard to the safety of everyone left on the boat. Also, the crew members of the Titanic were having to deal with a state of mass confusion and wanted to finish everything as quickly as possible, and therefore placed people on the lifeboats without determining whether more people could or could not fit. One last reason could be that the crew members put in charge of loading the boats were trying to ensure that they lifeboats did not exceed the maximum weight limit and as a result they did not fill the lifeboats to their full capacity.

How many lifeboats were on the Titanic?

The Titanic was originally fitted with 16 davits, each with 4 lifeboats, which was more than enough for everyone on board. The White Star Line (Ismay) ordered the removal of three lifeboats per davit, leaving only 16 lifeboats, as the line claimed the full 64 lifeboats made the ship look bad. After the Titanic sank, her two sister ships, Olympic and Britannic, were both fitted with the full 64 lifeboats. There were 14 wooden lifeboats with a capacity of 65 persons each, 4 collapsible lifeboats with a capacity of 47 persons each, and 2 rescue cutters with a capacity of 40 persons each, for a total of 20 lifeboats. There were also 3500 lifebelts aboard and 48 life rings, but they were useless in the icy water. Amazingly there were more lifeboats aboard than required by the Board of Trade. The Board of Trade only required enough lifeboats on board to hold 1,060 persons. Titanic's lifeboats held a capacity of 1,178 persons, more than required by law in 1912. This was because the lifeboat law was based on the ship's weight, not on the ship's number of passengers. Through this disaster, we learned that the laws need to be changed.Emergency Lifeboats x 2Wood cutter25 ft. 2 in. Long7 ft. 2 in. It was originally designed to carry 32 boats, but the number was reduced because designers felt that the deck would be excessively cluttered. The ship actually had enough davits, or lifeboat supports, to carry 64 lifeboats, but most of them remained unfilled. There was 14 wooden lifeboats with a capacity of 65 persons each, 4 collapsible lifeboats with a capacity of 47 person each, and 2 rescue cutters with a capacity of 40 persons each, a total of 20 lifeboats. Therefore there is no lifeboats on the wreck of Titanic.Several davits, however, have been salvaged and are on display in the traveling Titanic Exhibition. The 20 lifeboats that ended up on board the luxury liner were approximately half the amount required to handle the potential evacuation of the more than 2,000 passengers and crew members onboard. While the managing director of the shipbuilding company, Harland and Wolff, wanted to have 64 lifeboats on board, the justification for omitting them was the concern, expressed by the Titanic's owner, that an excess of lifeboats would have made the ship less visually appealingTitanic had 20 lifeboats (for 2,208 passengers).

Why were some life boats on the titanic only half full?

Too many people thought the ship would be its own lifeboat. It was far to cold for many of the passengers. Many people simply didnt see the point at first in going aboard a small little boat in the middle of the atlantic. It seemed better to stay on the warm ship and await rescue from a nearby ship.

Why weren't the titanic lifeboats filled?

With perfect hindsight, we realize now that the boats were not filled because of the code of chivalry - women and children first - which meant that many men were denied, meaning only empty seats in many boats. Some officers, however, issued orders for some boats to specifically leave seats to receive more passengers at lower landings, ,but nobody ever did. They simply dropped to the water and rowed away.
