I believe GM rated the vehicle at 14 MPG city and 18 MPG highway for 4WD. I have 135,000 miles on my 2000 Z71 and get around 15.5 MPG driving back and forth to work. If I set the cruise control at 63 MPH and leave it alone, I can still get 19.5 MPG.
gm lists it as getting 14 mpg on the highway
the average gas mileage for 1991 GMCSafari XL van?
20 - 23 mpg highway using REAL gasoline 17 - 20 mpg highway using 10% ethanol 12 - 16 mpg city using REAL gasoline 10 - 14 mpg city using 10% ethanol
Mine has 135,000 miles and gets around 22 mpg on highway. It's surprisingly reliable for a GM car. Mine has 135,000 miles and a V-6 and gets around 22 mpg on highway. It's surprisingly reliable for a GM car.
The "GM" could be either for Grand Master or a maker's mark .
Fill the fuel tank to the top and record the mileage. The next time you fill up record the mileage and number of gallons. Now divide the number of gallons into the number of miles driven since last fill up and you will have the mpg.
GM Sold a record 17.8 million units in 2000 check the additional links section.

I know they will get 8 to 10 in town and around 12 on the freeway. You will get 11 MPG city and 15 MPG HWY, if your Suburban is in good condition. (Like mine)
To reset the mpg, and timer. You need to press and hold both buttons for about 5 to 6 secs.
