Probably R12 but transition was made to 134a about mid 90s. Sticker on compressor should say. There should be a sticker on or near the radiator upper support.
The Camry used R-12 refrigerant through the 1993 model year -- up until the mandated change-over date in 1994. Camrys after 1994 used R-134a.
It depends on the year of the car. From 1994 on, R134a refrigerant is used. Prior to that, they used R12 refrigerant (Freon). R134a is technically not "Freon". Be alert, however, as many older cars (like my 1986 Camry) have been retro-fitted with R134a systems, and can no longer accept Freon, as the two refrigerants are not compatible.
Most vehicles made before 1994 use R-12 refrigerant.
R12. I don't think 134a can into use until around 1996.
A/C uses 134-A refrigerant
r-34a
134a
It meters liquid high pressure refrigerant into the evaporator which is located in the heater housing under the dash. It controls refrigerant flow to keep the evaporator coil from icing up.
Most all vehicles since about 1994
R134a
1994 Mercury villagers come factory charged with R134a refrigerant. Vehicles built 1993 or prior were charged with R12 for note.
