According to statements from the Church's spokeswoman, Ruth Todd, the canneries east of the Missisippi in the United States will no longer allow people to can their own food in Church-owned canneries as of July 2013, but may still purchase pre-canned church produced foods at these sites and online. The Church will still produce food in it's canneries, but will not allow the public to can their own food at these eastern locations. The canneries are NOT closing, but will only allow trained employees to use the canning equipment rather than volunteers and customers. It has been promised that the same, if not more, variety will be available for purchase.
