A:

Because we are taught to rely on the gospels, most people are astonished to learn that we really know so little about what Jesus taught. We can certainly say that the Christian religion, in general, must reflect some of Jesus' teachings, but we could not say whether one denomination or another is closer in following his teachings.

The Jesus Seminar, a theological research group, concluded that in the four canonical gospels and the Gospel of Thomas, only about 18 per cent of sayings attributed to Jesus were likely to have been said by Jesus himself, with nearly all the sayings that appear in John's Gospel seen as inauthentic. Nearly every teaching attributed to Jesus seems to have originated after his death.

We can probably say that Jesus taught love of others and high moral values, but these are teachings followed by all religions.

Considering that Jesus came to reveal His Father, coming first to the Jews as a Jew Himself, and establishing His Father's Church of God in Jerusalem, and that all the Apostles were Jewish as were the first members of the Church - predominantly, then the closest belief system would be Judaism.

Both share a unique relationship with God with the House of Israel being God's Chosen and Christians being 'grafted' onto the branch - now spiritual Israel.
