Religion didnt just establishe the thirteen colonies it established America. What most history books leave out among many other things is the signing of the Mayflower Compact, which stated that the man there would dedicated the first colony to God

"Having undertaken, for the Glory of God, and advancements of the Christian faith and honor of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the Northern parts of Virginia, do by these presents, solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God,"

There was a variety of religions and some who did not follow any religion at all.

Catholicism, Church of England (Anglican Church), Puritans, Quakers, Anabaptists, Freethinkers, Methodists, Lutherans, Calvinists (also called Presbyterians), Jews, and Separatists (later known as the Congregational Church) were probably the most widely represented in the 1600s.
