The Anasazi belived in a creator, and that all living things have a spirit which is part of a Great Spirit. Their beliefs focused on survival, mainly food and water. They believed that their main responsibility was to honor the Earth.

Evidence of their interest in the sun was found in Chaco Canyon, where spirals carved into the walls of the ruins still show when the sun is in certain positions and when the solstices occur by the way a sliver of sun shines directly into the center of the spirals.
