I have a laptop with a screen resolution of 1366x768 and i was told it was a 1080i resolution I'm not entirely sure
1080i
The PS3's maximum output resolution is 1080i. However, the actual quality of a game changes how good of a resolution the PS3 will output in. There are very few games that actually support output in 1080i and therefore you will rarely see that good of quality.
The Sony HDR-FX1 is today's highest-resolution camcorder. It can record in 1080i HD.
1080i is a term related to high-definition televisions. The 'i' in 1080i stands for 'interlaced', meaning the TV draws lines and interlaces them to show the whole picture. The '1080' in 1080i means there are 1080 lines of resolution.
A common resolution for HD ready televisions. Refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080i
Sometimes it depends in what kind of TV you have, some TV's prefere 1080i to 1080p for example. But if you have a very good HD TV then 1080P is the best resolution to pick for High def Xbox 360 gaming. Hope this helped.

A television that handles 1080i is a high definition model and will therefore support all high definition broadcast formats including 720p. Although 720p is a lower resolution, it is refreshed at twice the rate of 1080i so is classed as another full HD format.
"A 720p resolution would be better than other smaller numbered resolution and is much better than traditional tube televisions. However, a 720p resolution television is not necessarily better or worse than a 1080i. Each is best for different types of viewing."
It's to do with the resolution. The 1080 identifies the number of lines that create the image, so 1080p and 1080i have the same number of lines. The letter stands for the type scan the TV uses. The P stands for progressive and the I stands for interlaced. Progressive will process the image twice as fast as interlaced and therefore produces better colour and clarity.
It supports 720p, 1080i and 1080p. On my television it auto selects 720p unless I disable 720p in the PS3 display settings.
