Women could not do a lot of things. Yes, they could not vote... but there are more as well. Women could not get an equal education as a man could, and of course, that means women did not get highly paid jobs. That and many jobs did not want women working for them. Also, if a women bought land with her own money... the land would be in the husbands name! And if he were to pass away... the land would go to the eldest son!
