Tough question. Judging by the condition of the African continent currently - the US is far better place. That aside what is the result. The result is that many Americans of African decent are too this day - Christians. The road by which all we non-native America arrived here is, at this point, irrelevant. Some came because we wanted to, others came because there were wanted to by others. If you ever picked cotton in the summer in South Carolina (I have) - you would want someone else to do it for you IF it were legal for you to have them do so. It was and people did. It bears to me remembered honestly and openly. Everyone from that era is dead and judged. Let the 19th century be.

Allow me to be clear though - slavery is and always has been wrong. There was a procedure in place in Moses's day - that if a person was too far in debt - they could be taken as a bondsman for a period of not more than 7 years by a rich benefactor who would in turn pay off their debts and give them some re-start cash. Indentured servitude they called it more recently. Racial slavery has always been wrong - but don't think the Africans are alone. The Hebrews were enslaved almost entirely for several hundred years - and by rights they 'own' a few pyramids even now. They make no such claim and are no longer sore about it. That was in 1500BC though.

The result is that America is now more diverse and for that we are the benefactors. A quick look at Africa can let you know that place is despair embodied into continental form 95% of the time.
