∙ 10y agoHe was leader of the loyalist forces trying to prevent Mexico from seceding from Spain. He ultimately was convinced to become emperor of the Mexican Empire if it became independent, and as such, he switched sides and thus the Mexican War of Independence came to an end.

He however, was a bad ruler with constant scandals and wasteful expenses.In 1823 some generals led by Guadalupe Victoria and Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna formulated the Plan of Casa Mata, which abolished the monarchy and established a republic.
