Oak Ridge was responsible for Uranium enrichment (oralloy) and small scale Plutonium production reactor (X-10) prototype development.
Hanford was responsible for operation of Plutonium production reactors (B-reactor, etc.) and fuel pellet reprocessing to extract Plutonium.
20 Billion. That's including silos and other facility's to maintain an launch the bomb.
the creation of atomic weapon !
Abdul Qadeer Khan was a Pakistani metallurgical engineer who played a major role in Pakistan's nuclear weapons program. He is credited with leading Pakistan's efforts to develop nuclear technology and successfully conducting nuclear tests in 1998. However, he was also involved in nuclear proliferation activities by sharing nuclear technology with other countries, leading to international controversy and sanctions.
The United States, with its activities through the Manhattan Project in WW2, produced the first nuclear weapons. There were thousands of people on this project, from my grandfather working as a general construction worker at Hanford and totally baffled at the tons of perfectly good equipment the army kept dumping in trenches and burying (he was still baffled when I was a kid in the 1960s and it had long been publicly announced that Hanford had made the plutonium for the Nagasaki bomb), to J. R. Oppenheimer and Leslie R. Groves that managed the project. By the end of Operation Crossroads in the summer of 1946 at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific, we had built a grand total of 9 devices, detonated 5 of them, leaving only 4 in "stockpile".
NATO was primarily formed because the "Eastern Block" had about 10 times as many conventional divisions on active status as Europe did at the time.
Vera Edinger has written: 'Hanford' -- subject(s): Hanford Atomic Products Operation, Hanford Site (Wash.), Nuclear facilities, Nuclear industry, Public utilities
As of 2021, Hanford nuclear site employs about 9,000 workers, with the majority of them working on cleanup efforts of the site.
The Hanford Site is most known for it's being a decommissioned nuclear reactor site. It is located on the Columbia River in Washington. It was involved the the production of nuclear weapons.
Because it was changing people's DNA

Nuclear Engineer
The Manhattan Engineer District, popularly known as the Manhattan Project, was the United States program to develop nuclear weapons from 1941 to 1946. It had no defined territorial limits, but had major facilities in Hanford, WA; Oak Ridge, TN; and Los Alamos, NM. It was named for its original headquarters at 270 Broadway in Manhattan.
With proper safeguards, which a good nuclear engineer would most certainly have in place, the only danger of being a nuclear engineer would be the negativity received when anti-nuclear activists find out your profession. Oh well. :-)>
