What similarities exist between Islamic fundamentalism and fundamentalist movements in Judaism and Christianity?

The one attribute common to Islamic, Judaic and Christian fundamentalism is the absolute conviction about being right, to the exclusion of all other points of view. This becomes an obsession in which the fundamentalist is no longer able to listen to reason or consider any facts contrary to his or her beliefs. Not all fundamentalists are violent, but some believe that the world must accept their unique point of view and that the only way to achieve this is by force. Fundamentalism is not restricted to Islam, Judaism and Christianity, but is much rarer among other religions.

How has the rise of Islamic fundamentalism increased global terrorism?

Islamic Fundamentalism (Usuliya) is a religious position about how a person should live their life. It concerns personal implementation of the Shari'a law. It is not necessarily violent, but most Fundamentalists (Usuliyin) cannot separate their personal desire to live a puritanical life from their demand that others join them and set up laws requiring a country or the world to adhere to their views. When others resist, preferring to live in democracies or secular states, this prompts the Islamic Fundamentalists to press for change using violence and terrorism.
