Increased use of refined coal, and improvements in metalworking helped propel the revolution of the 1700's.

A lot of it was down to improvements in the steam engine by James Watt in 1776. This helped increase the viability of powered machinery in manufacturing (especially in textiles).

The steam engine improvements allowed for more efficient train's which meant faster transport was available for shipping of natural resources, components and finished goods. Along with more railways, came more canals and roads.

Mass production of basic materials such as glass and paper as well as other chemicals, helped aswell.

Gas lighting made it possible for business and factories to operate longer hours, increasing productivity.
